In addition to the regular button styles available in Captivate, you can turn a smart shape into a button. This gives you the flexibility to add interactivity to any kind of shape, not just rectangles with text in them.
- Click the Shapes button on the toolbar.
- Select a type of shape.
- Click and drag to draw the shape on the stage.
The shape is inserted, and now we can turn it into a button.
- Select a shape.
- Check the Usage as Button checkbox on the Properties panel.
The Actions tab now appears between the Style and Options tabs, indicating that it's now working as a button that you can assign an action to.
- Select the smart shape button.
- Click the Actions tab.
- Click the On Success menu arrow.
- Select an action.
You can also customize this shape's other properties here, just like a normal button, including adding a shortcut key, toggling a hand cursor, or disabling the click sound.
- Select the smart shape button.
- Click the State View button.
- Click a button state.
- Edit a button state's formatting.
- Click the Exit State button.
